06 November 2024
JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM, Hawaii -- --
Navy Closure Task Force-Red Hill (NCTF-RH) invites the public to its quarterly open house Thursday, Nov. 14, from 5-7 p.m. at the Hokulani Community Center located at 298 Main St. Honolulu, Hawaii, 96818.
The open house will focus on current and future environmental efforts at Red Hill and include long-term efforts to increase redundancy, restoration, resiliency, and security of the Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam (JBPHH) drinking water distribution system.
A range of booths, interactive displays and experts will be available to provide information on the Navy’s extensive sampling programs, plans to expand the network of monitoring wells, groundwater flow, environmental quality control and compliance, and the site investigation process.
“The task force has made significant progress in the last few months toward cleaning and closing the underground storage tanks at the Red Hill Bulk Fuel Storage Facility (RHBFSF),” said NCTF-RH Deputy Commander Rear Adm. Marc Williams. “Along with ongoing closure efforts, the team is laser-focused on the remediation of the environment in and around Red Hill, ensuring the protection of Oahu’s aquifer now and in the future. We are committed to the restoration, resiliency, and security of the JBPHH water system.”
NCTF-RH is committed to working with all government agencies and community stakeholders to safely and deliberately close the RHBFSF underground storage tanks and associated piping system, conduct long-term environmental remediation, and ensure continued access to safe drinking water in compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, policies and regulations.
