The Navy monitors air quality while the fuel tanks are being ventilated for cleaning even though there have not been any detections of volatile organic gases. Established by the Department of the Navy as a commitment to the community and the environment, Navy Closure Task Force-Red Hill is charged with the safe decommissioning of the facility and continues to engage with the people of Hawaii, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders as it safely and deliberately decommissions the RHBFSF. Navy Closure Task Force-Red Hill will host a groundwater monitoring informational webinar on Tuesday, Sept. 24, from 5-6 p.m. Hawaii Standard Time. The webinar will discuss the Navy's groundwater monitoring well network around the area of the Red Hill Bulk Fuel Storage Facility. Since groundwater can be a raw source of drinking water, the Navy utilizes data from a system of monitoring wells and combination of various models to develop a comprehensive understanding of the groundwater conditions in the area.
