The Navy monitors air quality while the fuel tanks are being ventilated for cleaning even though there have not been any detections of volatile organic gases. Established by the Department of the Navy as a commitment to the community and the environment, Navy Closure Task Force-Red Hill is charged with the safe decommissioning of the facility and continues to engage with the people of Hawaii, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders as it safely and deliberately decommissions the RHBFSF. The Navy’s team of experts came from across the United States to ‘swarm’ and find ways to address community and regulator concerns over water testing and quality at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii.
