PEARL CITY, Hawaii (June 18, 2024) Sherri Eng, executive director, Navy Closure Task Force-Red Hill (NCTF-RH) presents an operational update to the Honolulu Local Emergency Planning Committee at a meeting in Pearl City, Hawaii, June 18, 2024. Eng shared updates on NCTF-RH’s recent milestones, including the start of tank ventilation, aqueous film-forming foam (AFFF) removal, and reduced water pumping at the Red Hill shaft. She also presented an overview of the Navy’s lines of effort related to the mission, tank cleaning, tank ventilation, and air quality monitoring. Charged with the safe decommissioning of the Red Hill Bulk Fuel Storage Facility (RHBFSF), NCTF-RH was established by the Department of the Navy as a commitment to the community and the environment, and continues to engage with the people of Hawaii, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders as it safely and deliberately decommissions the RHBFSF.
