Navy Closure Task Force-Red Hill (NCTF-RH) contractors seal a shaft after spool removal prior to tank degassing operations at the Red Hill Bulk Fuel Storage Facility (RHBFSF) in Honolulu, March 17, 2026. Degassing, or forced ventilation, of the underground storage tanks and subsequent air monitoring procedures have undergone rigorous modeling and regulatory scrutiny to ensure the safety of the surrounding community while allowing workers to safely enter and clean the interior of the tanks.
