HALAWA, Hawaii (June 26, 2024) A Navy Closure Task Force-Red Hill (NCTF-RH) contractor installs a horizontal lifeline inside fuel tank 8 at the Red Hill Bulk Fuel Storage Facility (RHBFSF) in Halawa, Hawaii, June 26, 2024. The lifeline will be one of three that will allow workers to safely enter and maneuver and begin removing sludge from the interior of the tank. Charged with the safe decommissioning of the RHBFSF, NCTF-RH was established by the Department of the Navy as a commitment to the community and the environment. Three 265-gallon totes of 3% AFFF Concentrate were transferred to Military Sealift Command for usage onboard ships in the fleet. PEARL CITY, Hawaii (June 18, 2024) Sherri Eng, executive director, Navy Closure Task Force-Red Hill (NCTF-RH) provides an operational update to the Honolulu Local Emergency Planning Committee at a meeting in Pearl City, Hawaii, June 18, 2024. Eng shared updates on NCTF-RH’s recent milestones including the start of tank ventilation, AFFF removal, and reduced water pumping at the Red Hill shaft. She also presented an overview of the Navy’s lines of effort related to the mission, tank cleaning, tank ventilation, and air quality monitoring.
